                                  ~~~~1 Year Later~~~~
Ludwig talked nonstop of his girlfriend. Her name was Agatha, and that name came up in his handwriting more than you thought it would. He didn't even think twice that it would probably hurt you, but you never blamed him. You never brought it up because you knew he only meant well. You just couldn't tell how to react to this anymore.
So, you did what a true friend does. You supported him through it all, especially with tips on what he should get her for her birthday, and where he should take her out on dates. You even gave him a prep talk on how to kiss well. You suddenly felt more distant from Ludwig, and this feeling was very negative.
You also started to become aware of the fact that this Agatha was a little pushy. She seemed more spoiled and demanding with each mention of her in Ludwig's letters to you. There were ways you tried hard to think of, ways to let him know that she was probably going to hurt him, but you didn't want to break his heart or hurt him in any way. You loved him too much to do so.
You remembered quote from a book you read saying, "If you truly love someone, you're willing to let them go." You revolved around this quote, seeing as it kept you out of trouble and drama with Ludwig. You scanned through all the past letters he'd sent you, remembering what good times you both had. Even when he was just starting to date Agatha, you two were closer then than you were now. You folded the letters back up and put them back in your old shoe box.
You smiled, knowing he was happy where he was. You sat in your room, reminiscing about the funny things you two would send to each other. Whether they were stereotypical jokes, or just serious conversations about each others' past, you loved each and every one of them. Your mom called you to the kitchen to help prepare dinner. 'Wonderful!' you thought. Dinner would surely take your mind off of things.
You enjoyed your rice and teriyaki chicken, knowing that you haven't eaten it in about a month. It did the trick and took your mind off of everything. After cleaning the dishes, you walk up to your room and pulled out a manga. It was ____, one of your favorites. Suddenly, the phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Yo! Is this ___?"
"Oh yeah! Hey Alfred. What's going on?"
"Nothing, nothing. I was just wondering if you wanted to catch a movie or something. It's Friday night, and sadly, I have nothing to do." ('That's a first, Alfred', you thought.)
"Me, and you, and a movie?"
"Well, yeah. If you don't want to you-"
"No, that sounds…fun! What time will you pick me up?"
"How about 7:30?"
"Yeah! That sounds perfect!"
"Okay, great! See ya' then."
"Alright, you too Alfred." You smiled as you hung up the phone, knowing that it'd be really fun to hang out with Alfred. He may have been loud and obnoxious, but you knew he was a fun guy. The doorbell rang as you were putting your earrings on.
"Wow, you look gorgeous." He complimented you as he handed you red roses. You smelled them and put them in the nearest vase. You were flushed.
"Thank you, Alfred. You look very handsome."
"Thanks." He wasn't wearing glasses that night, only contacts, and his beautiful blue eyes sparkled from your kitchen light. He walked you to his car and opened the door for you. You politely thanked him and sat down. The car was actually pretty clean and smelled new.
"Wow, Alfred. You sure know how to keep a car clean."
"Pssshhh, I wish! I kind of rented the thing. My other car broke down and I needed to get it repaired. I'm glad you like it, though."
"Oh…I knew it was too good to be true."
"Hahaha…yeah. …Wait, what's that supposed to-"
"Well we gotta get going Alfred, the movie starts in 20 minutes." He put the keys in the ignition and started the car, giving you the evil eye. You laughed it off, patting his head. You noticed how nice he smelled, which was a bit more attractive. He really fixed himself up for you that night, and you felt honored.
Of course, you had to watch a scary movie, but Alfred wasn't so much of a chicken that night. Whenever you got scared, you hid behind his arm, and he laughed. This made you wonder if Alfred, screaming like a 2 year old every time you watched a scary movie, was just acting. You were too busy screaming and hiding, so you didn't even think twice about asking him if everything was an act.
After the movie, he wanted to take you downtown for a ride. It was packed, especially since it was a Friday night, but you loved looking around and learning about new restaurants down there. You even found a book store right next to a coffee shop, and you thought about going there one day. He then took you to the beach.
It was beautiful at night. The way the full moon reflected on the huge ocean. The fact that it was only the two of you. It felt a little romantic. You twirled around in the ankle-high cold water, and Alfred just watched you. You looked so elegant, the way you dress twirled and your long ___ hair freely floating. He rolled up his pants and joined you. The both of you sang and jumped around, playing around with each other. But you couldn't stop thinking of Ludwig.
Sure, you liked Alfred a lot. He was cute, funny, and the coolest, most uplifting guy you've ever met, no matter how childish he was. He was different, and he knew when to be serious. He sat you down on the soft sand, him right next to you, and he put his arm around you. You curled in closer to him, feeling the warmth of his body heat. You were both breathing hard from all the playing.
"This has been so much fun, Alfred."
"Yeah…It has. I'm glad you liked it ___."
"Truth is, I haven't been out in a while. I can't believe I've been missing out on this kind of stuff."
"Well, you should keep it up while you're young. That's why you always see me partying and stuff. It's a hell of a lot funner than staying at home."
"Yeah, you're completely right. …Alfred, is funner even a word?" The both of you stared at each other, and a few seconds later, laughter broke the swift silence.
"Nah! But who cares? It's not illegal or anything…right?" You giggled while looking at him.
"You're so funny Alfred." He smiled at you. It was one of the cutest smile ever.
"Yeah…you think so?" You both made eye contact for the longest time.
"Ludwig, this has been so much fun!"
"Yeah, you're right! We should really try this again." Ludwig and Agatha were coming from the cotton candy parlor with pink and blue cotton candy. Agatha finished hers within 2 minutes, trying to eat Ludwig's.
"No way! Get your own, Agatha." He said in a friendly tone. He was just yanking her chain a bit, but apparently he went too far.
"Well, maybe I'm a little hungry Ludwig!" Her tone wasn't so friendly anymore. She obviously wanted more food, but Ludwig's wallet kept getting flatter and flatter with every date spent on her. She was just so pretty, he had to please her.
"Oh…I-I'm sorry Agatha. Here, let me go get you more-"
"No! Never mind that anymore…you ruined my apatite anyway." She stormed off to the car, and Ludwig got the feeling she wasn't too happy with him. Well, it was quite obvious. Thank goodness only a few heads turned as she stormed away, and at that very moment, Ludwig couldn't help but think about you.
He slowly walked back to his car where she was waiting, scrutinizing her long, French tipped nails. He opened the and entered, hoping she wouldn't scream at him. Too bad all hope was lost as soon as he closed the door.
"Hurry, I can't be out too late! By the way, what in the world took you so long, huh?"
"Look, I'm sorry. I was just thinking."
"Thinking?! What the hell could you be thinking about, Ludwig?!"
"It's nothing, I'm sorry-"
"Was it about me?! Because I'm pretty damn sure it wasn't!"
"First of all, please don't cuss at me like that-"
"I can if I want to! …And I bet you were thinking about that stupid Pen Pal whore of yours, weren't you?!" He stared straight into her eyes, pissed as ever.
"Agatha, don't you dare call her that ever again."
"Why not?! What are you going to do to me, huh?! Nothing, you can't 'cause I own you! I'm so damn pretty and wonderful that you won't ever leave-"
"Get the fuck out of my car, Agatha." He stared her dead in the eye, and he didn't even have to yell yet. She stared back, looking as evil and hateful as ever. She had never seen him this way before, but he was just so sick and tired of her crap. He couldn't take it anymore.
"I said, get out…now!" His face was red. She was suddenly scared with tears in her eyes. But that was too bad, because Ludwig wasn't having it anymore. He was done. "We're through, Agatha. I never want to see you, ever again. I especially don't want to hear you talking about my girl that way. Now get out."
She angrily got out of the car and slammed the door, and he was off. Agatha was left alone at the carnival. The first thing he did when he got home was pull out a piece of paper and write you. Everything that was on his mind spilled all over the paper.
You and Alfred were so comfortable, sitting on the sand and watching the moon and ocean.  Your fingers felt their way through the sand and broken sea shells as the both of you talked.
"You know, you're kind of cute, ___." You looked at him with red cheeks.
"Thank you, Alfred. You're very sweet." He looked deep into your eyes, ready to pull you in for a kiss. "You're kind of cute, too." The both of you looked each other in the eyes, then the lips, and back to the eyes. He pulled you in closer, and soon, your lips were touching. But Ludwig came up, and everything felt wrong again. You pulled away from the thick kiss as quick as possible.
"Is something wrong, ___?"
"Alfred…I…I…"
"…Yes?"
"I'm sorry but I gotta go home! I can't do this…I'm terribly sorry."
"Ok, ok, calm down. I'll take you home right now." He walked you to the car and drove you home. The ride home was completely silent, and Ludwig crossed your mind constantly. Your heart was aching and you craved to talk to him. You also felt terribly bad for Alfred, pulling away from him like that. You began apologizing.
"No, no, it's alright ___. You don't have to apologize. Please don't feel bad. I completely understand if you didn't want to kiss. I'm sorry if I pressured into any of this-"
"No, Alfred. I wasn't being pressured. It wasn't you at all, really. The kiss was really sweet. And thank you for such a wonderful night. It was one of the best nights of my life. You're very sweet, Alfred." He kept his eyes on the road.
"It's your Pen Pal Ludwig, isn't it?" The name struck you, sending shivers all over your body. You sat there in silence as he pulled up to the curb. He opened your door letting you out. You stared at him, feeling really bad.
"How'd you know?" He slightly chuckled as he looked at the side walk, then back at you.
"___, do you know how many times you brought his name up?" Your face was really warm. The truth was, you didn't realize. But this question made you wonder.
"Am I that obvious?"
"…Pretty much." The both of you laughed it off.
"Listen Alfred, I'm sorry about the whole shenanigans back there, it's just-"
"There's no need to explain or apologize for whatever reason whatsoever, ___. We're cool, dude." You smiled at him, realizing he was really sweet and understanding.
"Alfred, I had a wonderful night. Thank you so much. Any girl would be so lucky to have you, you know that?" You gave him a sweet smile as you two walked toward your door. His face was red.
"Well, you're very welcome ___. Any time."  You kissed him on the lips once more, and it tickled you. He was dumbstruck, looking into your ___ eyes. His cheeks were flushed, making him look even more adorable. You gave him a hug.
"Thank you so much for understanding, Alfred. You're a true friend." He smiled at you.
"But of course I am." You both giggled.
"Friends forever?" You held your hand out, and he lightly grabbed it.
"Friends forever."
"Alright…well goodnight Alfred, thanks for the night again."
"Goodnight ___. You have a good one." You walked in, seeing your mom was asleep on the couch again. You whispered goodnight to her, kissed her on the head and ran up to your room. You looked through the letters over and over, knowing your friend was happy. But you still felt empty without him. You very much missed the ole Ludwig, and you craved talking to him again.
4 days flew by, and by Tuesday after coming home from school, you received another letter from him. You weren't as excited; assuming it was going to be about him and Agatha again, but you ripped the envelope open anyway, excited to see what was inside.
________________________________________________________________________________
Hey there ___,
It's me, Ludwig, obviously. Anyway, did I ever tell you how much I missed you? Or how good of a friend you are to me? Or even how beautiful you are? Listen, it's over between her and me. It hurts writing this, but she was a real b****. (I'm not taking any risks writing out the letters of that last word.)I want to restart, ___. Just you and me again, like we were before she came around.
I was stupid and wrong to date her. I looked back at the letters you gave me, and I've noticed you were only stating positive things about her, even though you probably knew she was a jerk. You never once doubted us, you just kept complimenting her and me. What I really want to know is, why? What made you so sure she was the one for me? I mean, I wasn't even sure.
You know, you're too good to me ___. Really. I don't even deserve you. I realize how much of a big fat jerk I am, pushing you further and further away. Yeah, I realized it. I hope it's not too late, ___. I want…no, I need to start over with you. I want you and only you, ___. I know we haven't the slightest clue of what we look like in actual person, but I think I love you, ___. I mean it.
I…I can't stop thinking about you, I can't stop thinking about us! It's consuming my mind, but I love it, because it's you! I…I'm in love with you, and I don't care what anyone else thinks. I just need you to know that, and I hope and pray that you feel the same way. I really do. As I finish writing, you may notice the smudged ink. That's because I'm in full tears. You're the only one who can do that; make me cry. So please don't send me an empty envelope. I love you, ___. More than anything.
Love,
Ludwig
It's finally here! : ) The 3rd part everyone's been waiting for.
